After arriving at Hong Kong’s international airport, we found the train to the city. At the city end of the ride, we had to transfer to connecting shuttle buses (included in the fare) to the Park Hotel. [Edit: in later years, we decided that the public bus is actually faster than the train if one factored in the time involved with connecting shuttle rides.]
We window-shopped for a while before heading to the Star Ferry station to watch the sunset and the lights on the skyscrapers come the night. We crossed the harbour by Star Ferry, which being a form of public transport is possibly the best value harbour cruise in the world. I loved the illuminated skyscrapers against the black velvet sky.
We took the MTR back to our side of the harbour, finishing at Mongkok. We’re in the market for some new mobile phones and looked at a few shops. Surprisingly, many on the main streets were fixed-price.
After dinner, we bought some gifts and looked for an internet café. Various places that had internet computers were closed but we managed to find a free one at a karaoke centre. Not sure how that works in terms of revenue generation.
We returned to the Park Hotel around 2230 pretty worn out.
