Back to Kerman

13 May 2003

Above: Bam’s town centre.

It was our sleep-in today, waking up at 0830 before taking a cold shower and having breakfast. Akbar, the owner of the guesthouse introduced himself after returning from Kerman. He was a teacher in English and Persian literature.

We wandered around Bam’s town but there wasn’t much to captivate us.

Walking into town at Bam.

We took a taxi with Daniel to the bus station and hopped on immediately at 1140 onto a bus back to Kerman, rather than wait for the 1200 scheduled service. En route, the attendant brought a jug of water with one cup to be used by the entire bus load. It didn’t seem right but really, it’s not different from holy communion in church.

Back in Kerman around 1430 we took a taxi to Akhavan Hotel again, wehre we rested briefly. The internet café accessible on foot was closed. It was too late to have lunch so we grabbed a sandwich to tide us till dinner and bought non-perishable food for tomorrow’s long bus trip to Shiraz.

A la carte dinner at the Akhavan Hotel tonight was a cut-down version of our previous meal with them. We had a chicken kebab, mixed kebab (beef, lamb, chicken, capsicum) plus blackened tomatoes on the side. The salad of lettuce, cucumber and tomato came with a sweetish dressing and yoghurt. We ate well for NZD5 pp.
