I had 1h sleep on this flight, making a total of 3h for the entire journey of about 24h from Auckland to London. Finally, we landed at Heathrow at 1105 and pulled into Terminal 3, a horrible terminal which involved a very long walk to the tube which would take us to our hotel at Gloucester Rd.
We had said goodbye to Kim’s parents, Matt and Stephanie as we’re doing our own thing during our short stay in London.
With a late morning landing but despite the multi-stop tube ride, it was still too early to get into our room at the Stuart Hotel. We left our packs there for a walk around Gloucester Rd and Kensington. We bought a chicken tandoori roll and a cream cheese and ham bagel for a picnic lunch in Hyde Park.
We were pleased to see our modest hotel room and rested briefly, trying hard not to sleep. We walked to a couple of museums, firstly the Natural History Museum and then the Transport & Technology Museum. I’m not a museum person but the aerial photo exhibitions in front of the former, by Yann Arthus Bertrand were truly awe-inspiring.
We tried going for a Thai dinner but it was far too early for them to be open. We settled for a Burger King meal of salad burger and chips. That ended our half-day in London and we were back in our room around 1830, preparing for bed.
