Start of my adventure
My brother dropped me off at Kuching International Airport in the morning. As it was a new terminal building, I explored it as much as I could before my flight to Johor Bahru.
I did notice on the apron that there were ground markings for the Airbus A380! Seems like a bit of a joke to me when Kuching hardly has any international or widebody flights these days.
Today I fly from Kuching to Sana’a, Yemen for my studies and adventure. I do have an unwieldly transit though. Due to much cheaper fare, I’m flying from Kuching to Johor Bahru airport, then crossing the border into Singapore. After a long layover, I’ll board my flight from Singapore to Dubai, connecting to Sana’a.
Getting to Singapore the hard way
The 1h+ flight to Johor Bahru was pleasant with a meal of sambal prawns, nasi lemak, long beans, egg crepe, peanuts and anchovies. Plus fresh fruit as dessert!
Upon arrival I had planned to take the airline’s bus to Singapore. As it had been rescheduled to a later time, I explored options. It would be MYR160 for a taxi to Singapore but only MYR40 to Johor Bahru immigration. With three other people, we split the fare four-ways and it cost me only MYR10!
Exiting the taxi in Johor Bahru city, I exited Malaysia by foot. The bus to Kranji in Singapore cost MYR0.80 when paid on the Malaysian side of the border but nearly three-fold at SGD0.80 if paid a little further along on the Singapore side.
From there, I took the MRT to Ang Mo Kio, then a cheap taxi ride of SGD3.70 to step-dad’s house. I was just in time to join step-bro Stanley for lunch.
I dozed in the afternoon before going to Serangoon to use the internet for online check-in. Back at the house, I quietly organised a taxi to the airport so as not to impose on Stanley late at night, as he would surely want to drive me there.
