I should have known better. The wine and kytron at dinner last night woke me up around 0330 this morning, and I only dozed lightly thereafter. I didn’t get out of bed till late.
After breakfast, I walked to town and then looked for the bus to Halki. Due to misunderstanding of the placard on the bus, I missed the immediate departure and had to wait for another one an hour later.
It took only 30 minutes to get to Halki, the former capital of Naxos. It was a pleasant and atmospheric place to wander around. Even though it felt like a two street town, it has beautiful mansions, lovely alleys and Byzantine churches.

After lunch, I returned to my part of the island. Around 1600, I went for another swim in the same place as yesterday. The water felt warmer than yesterday but it was still cool.
After a wash, I had nibbles of wine, chips, tomatoes and stuffed vine leaves on my deck. I tried to take a walk on Naxos’ very pleasant waterfront. But it was still very hot so I took refuge in the old city. Sunset is around 2030 and there’s still light at 2100.
After having had my own nibbles, I felt bloated and didn’t need much for dinner. Deciding that I couldn’t skip dinner, I had a tuna salad around 2000 and felt less bloated after. I couldn’t help myself and had a macadamia wafffle cone for EUR1.40! That’s so cheap compared to New Zealand and it even came with crunchy sugar-coated macadamias.
