Late morning, we went to the Indian Military Academy (IMA) where Pat had trained. Jo and Nandini had spent 3h organising a permit for all of us to visit. But we learnt that Pat didn’t want to visit as he had broken his four-year service contract when India gained her independence and he may be considered a deserter!

At the IMA we visited the Chetwode Hall. Looking at the names of past officers and the honoured, there were many Muslim names but after 1947 there were none.
I noticed some overseas plaques and Singapore’s military “Tentera Singapura” had the slogan “Yang Pertama dan Utama”. Nice, something I can understand apart from English. It means “The first and the foremost”.
We continued to the library to look for some 1946/47 photos that may have been relevant to Pat. They brought out only Drama Club ones of which he wasn’t a member.

Back in Dehradun town we had lunch at Kwality’s. It was another nice meal in India except that we had over-ordered. It drizzled as we went to the clock tower area where we accompanied the rest of the family who wanted to do some shopping.
We rested back in the hotel where Jo and I gave each other a massage. Jo went back to Nandini’s place in the evening while we went for dinner with Kim and parents.
