To my hometown

12 November 2006

Today I travel with Mum and step-dad to Kuching.  As usual, we do it on the cheap by crossing the border into Johor and flying from the airport there across the South China Sea to Kuching.  That saves on the hefty Singaporean airport tax and the higher airfare as well.

Jacob picked us up around 1500 to take us to the taxi stand where we would catch a taxi to Johor Bahru’s Senai airport.  We had interesting chats with the Johorean Chinese taxi driver.  He was a really racist prick and if all Malaysian Chinese were like him, the country’s race-relations would take a tumble.

At Senai airport wqe saw Singapore Airlines’ B777 aircraft doing touch-and-go’s on the runway.  I guess it’s cheaper for them to do it here, and it’s less busy, compared to their homebase in Singapore.

Today, we’re flying the relatively new budget airline, AirAsia.  The boarding process for the B737 was a tad chaotic.  The Captain sounded American.  The flight left and arrived about 10 mins early which is good for a newish airline flying older jets.

My brother Benny picked us up from the airport and we visited another brother on the way back to the apartment.
