One of the joys of being in Old Sana’a is spending time on the rooftop. The view of the old city in the evening is stunning.
And the atmosphere at night is like nothing else, especially when we bring Arabic sweets and tea up on to the roof to share. There is a certain magic about the view and the whole feel. It’s part of what brought me back to Sana’a and I hope to be back again.
And if there’s a blackout, the view of stars in the cloudless sky is priceless. Life here is simple and the pleasures are simple too.
As I have limited time left here, I’ve been thinking about making another trip. My friends are renting a house later in the year for an extended period. Sanaa is a good base for further travel in Yemen or to nearby Africa … Ethiopia beckons … or maybe Eritrea or Djibouti … and “No”, Somalia isn’t on my radar yet.
