Like in Toulouse, the country-side has a number of canals. We stopped and had a look at boats making their way through the locks.

Carcassonne is another fortified city that’s over-touristed, but I suppose that’s because it is pretty awesome. I wouldn’t have missed it just because of the crowds.
The fortification consists of a double ring of ramparts and 53 towers. Like Mont St Michel, various parts of the city are of different ages. To add to that, much of the place was restored in the late 1800s with stylistic and architectural errors.

We returned to Toulouse, making another pass by the Airbus factory in case there were more worthwhile sights.
