It is the day before Eid … the streets are busy. And the rubbish truck didn’t appear to make it last night.
We put our bags of rubbish (in shopping bags, not the large sacks) on the street corner for clearance last night … yes including a bag of used toilet paper (as I call it “origami” because it is polite to fold them before putting them in the bin. They were still there on the streets this afternoon.
As you know from yesterday, some people have goats in their bathroom at this time of year. But there appears to be a small herd on our street corner in preparation for the slaughter tomorrow. And they’re munching through the rubbish on the streets. Possibly ingesting our used toilet-paper origami?
In case anyone wants to label me as paranoid, compulsive-obsessive … that I am not. Would I be here for a third time if that was true? I love Yemen and I eat where Yemenis eat.
- View from our terrace … breakfast is served here daily 🙂
- Minaret in the old city.
- Marie buying tea. This place has the 2nd best tea in the world.
- Marie and Rhea with tea and mattress, respectively.
- Tomorrow’s lunch eating yesterday’s rubbish.
- The children have just come back from the bath-house or hammam.
- I made canapes to go with the bubbly (from Dubai Duty Free). Cheese, tomatoes and olives. Plus tuna-mayo mash with diced cucumber and olives. Mmmm…
