The islands (and a peninsular) on Lake Tana are home to many monasteries. We had an early boat ride arranged for 0800 but we had to pack up and move to Ghion Hotel before that.
After a mango juice and a macchiato, we set off with one extra hanger-on from Netherlands. The cruise on Lake Tana took us to several monasteries including one which didn’t permit entry to women.
The monasteries were very simple from the outside, built from wood and papyrus. On the inside they were intricately painted. The ride to and from were lovely with hippos, papyrus boats and lots of bird life.
We relaxed in the afternoon, had drinks by the pelicans before dinner back at the hotel.
