I had hoped to do something a little different this time in Hong Kong. Often with my overnights, there’s not much I can do at all. So this time I chose to visit the Big Buddha on Lantau Island, which is by-and-large a relatively untouched part of the territory.
After consulting Paul, my host, I decided to go to Big Buddha by cable car and return by bus/ferry combo taking in the fishing village of Tai O as well.
First up, pictures getting to and at Big Buddha, officially known as Tian Tan Buddha. The journey starts with a cable car ride from near the airport to the upper station at Ngong Ping 360. From there, one walks to the Big Buddha and a collection of other temples.

Tai O was such a refreshing change from mainstream Hong Kong. It’s hard to believe that this traditional fishing village is actually part of Hong Kong and only a short ferry ride to return to the CBD.
