We spent the day swimming and basking at Ancon Beach today, a short drive away from Trinidad. We grabbed a sandwich at a shack on the beach … as it was very reasonably priced, we gave our recommendation to the Spanish guy sitting near us.
Off he went to the shack too … but a local guy offered to accompany him. Well, well, well … there was apparently no sandwiches available. He was a little suspicious as his uninvited companion had mumbled something to the guy running the shack. On the way back, his “friend” offered to show him another eatery but he declined.
Kim and I got increasingly curious … so Kim offered to go get him a sandwich and promptly returned with one!
So that was our first experience with a Cuban hustler. In this case, he had been hanging around an Italian couple and an English traveller for a bit of the good life. Often, it may be a beer or a meal in a nice restaurant … lifestyle or luxuries rather than making ends meet.
