I woke early as if it was a workday, to take the flight to Nelson to meet my friend and visitor, Marie. The scenery was gorgeous … one forgets how pleasurable it is to do flights on a turboprop (in good weather).
I haven’t flown domestically for a while. Air New Zealand has a new simplifed process in place. Check-in desks are now gone; kiosks have replaced the people as seen in other countries. But its not like anything I’ve seen before:
- you tag your own bag and drop it off yourself unsupervised.
- if you’re travelling without bags you can go straight to gate with your e-ticket printout. You simply scan it at boarding … so you check-in and board at the same time. No boarding pass required!
- But you can check-in and get a boarding pass if you wish and choose your seat at the same time … not very necessary for short flights.
Well done, Air New Zealand!
