Day 1: Bunaken

15 October 2009

We had two days of diving with Living Colours in Bunaken.

Today we had two dives at Aluang Banua and Lekuan II. The dive sites were all beautiful walls with plenty of variety in the marine life.

Most importantly the divemasters were very professional … they gave good pre-dive briefings and always emphasised that this is a holiday and you should not rush your dive preparation. As we’re both quite new in the sport, we had one dive master for the both of us.

The chalets are spacious with a big deck and bathroom. Beds are equipped with mosquito nets, but you probably don’t need them. You’ll feel the breeze from the fans better without them.

The meals at Living Colours were amazing. Every lunch or dinner had rice and/or noodles plus a chicken, fish, vegetable dish (cooked in mild Indonesian or Chinese style) plus some deepfried goodies (eg. prawns, nuggets).

Bunaken island has problems with water supply. As there hadn’t been any rain for four months, the water supply from the well had gone salty.

Showering off after the dives or in the evening, it only takes a couple hours before one gets sticky again … in this humid weather, the salt seems to absorb the humidity and leave a sticky feeling all over unlike in dry weather where it simply leaves a dry salty coat. It just makes you want to tear your clothes off and stand in the breeze.

So, you now know … there is no air-conditioning. I understand that all resorts on Bunaken would have the same water issue and also no air-conditioning.
