The sun rises very early in Makassar, not quite as bad as in Manado but it is still very bright at five something. We had decided on an early start to beat the heat.
Out the door at 0800, it wasn’t too hot yet. But within minutes we were drenched from the humidity. We went to Fort Rotterdam (Benteng Ujung Pandang) and thereafter had some noodles for breakfast. We retreated back into the cool of the hotel by about 1000.
We made the most of our hotel room and asked for a slightly late checkout before leaving for the airport at 1400. We were very early for our 1955 flight to Kuala Lumpur. It was either waiting in the steaming weather somewhere in the city or at the airport. At the impressive Sultan Hassanudin airport, we paid about USD5 to enter the pay-lounge with food and drinks. While it was reasonably priced, it was also the hot corner of the airport! You can’t have it all ways!
