The layout of Muscat is a little unusual. It’s like several towns that are not quite joined.
I took the baisa-bus (shared minivan) to Mutrah this morning. This is the port-side part of the city. It’s quite pretty walking along the Corniche which links it to old Muscat or Muscat proper.
While there wasn’t many sights to actually see or tick-off, it is a relaxed and pretty city … very liveable indeed. It strikes a balance between the bling-bling of the Gulf and somewhat-medieval Yemen.
- Mutrah, the laid back area coastal business area of Muscat. Most businesses are located in nearby Ruwi or in suburban malls.
- Many Omani buildings are white.
- The Corniche in Mutrah.
- New and old vessels as seen from the Corniche in Mutrah.
- UFO? An incensed-burner shaped monument.
- Omanis like aesthetics … air-cons must be hidden from view. And there is a fine if your car is dirty.
- Arch going into Muscat proper.
- Many Omani buildings are white. These are homes in in the Muscat proper area.
- The Sultan’s Palace.
