We had an early start to catch Nizwa’s Friday markets in action … and to save ourself parking woes when it gets into full swing. It felt a bit strange for the livestock market to be in the relatively restored town centre. Other products like vegetables, meat are sold in permanent buildings (much like Melbourne’s market) … with some of the Friday overflow of traders peddling on the streets.
We then drove up the Jebel Shams (Sun Mountain) area. The mountain itself is the highest point in the Arabian peninsula. We were up to about 2000 metres … much like Sana’a the capital of Yemen but it was rather cold and windy.
After a pinic lunch in the carpark back in Nizwa, Ammi & Salome headed back to Muscat. I killed about 7 hours with two long meals, reading, planning and at an internet cafe. After that, it was an overnight bus (10 hours) for me towards Oman’s second largest city, Salalah.
