Above: Tumuli Park (burial mounds) by night at Gyeongju.
I flew to Daegu today at 1530, flying with Asiana Airlines again. Upon arrival an hour later, I took a taxi to its city centre for an hour-long bus ride to neighbouring Gyeongju.
Gyeongju is referred to as a museum without walls because it is home to more temples, pagodas, Buddhas and other historical artefacts, compared to anywhere else in Korea.
It has many old homes (including my guesthouse, “Sarangchae”) and has lots of park-like greens which are in fact the burial mounds of the ancient royals. Unlike my previous locations, this is a town rather than a big city, so it’s nice and compact for a change.
Also, I finally have my own room … no more dorms for a couple of nights.
And I’ll try to have some photos of the lovely green mounds and my guesthouse tomorrow.
