I headed out to the Jagalchi Fish Market early today, thinking that it may be like Tokyo’s where it is best caught early. The streets near the market were lined with live fish and other seafood, plus surprisingly frozen fish being thawed out!
I then found the actual Jagalchi Fish Market which is an impressive multi-storey building with a rooftop garden. The market certainly sells a variety of creatures from the deep that I haven’t seen … it would be too rude to describe them as weird shit!.

- Busan Harbour.
- Fishing boats in the harbour.
- Fish being sold by the access-way can be cooked and eaten in the restaurant further in (seen on left).
- Jagalchi Fish Market.
- I’ll have to pass on this one too!
- Don’t know this one.
- Close-up of previous picture. It’s got no gills … just a tiny mouth.
- How do you tell the kids that the tigers ate the bears. Seen at the toy stall at the fish market.
- Flattened dried fish.
- Don’t know what this is … but it looks rather phallic.
- Almost too beautiful to eat.
- Octopus in net-bags. Without the nets, they climb all over … I saw one crawling on the sidewalk that had to be thrown back into the tub.
- Inside Jagalchi Fish Market.
- These are sucker things … they have tiny feelers.
- Sea cucumber, I think.
- Yummy scallops. Big’uns too!
- Mussels. Big’uns again.
Crossing to the other end of Busan, I visited Beomeosa, supposedly one of the best temples around. Big mistake … it didn’t take long for me to realise that I had overdosed on temples already and the midday heat didn’t help.
Hurshingchum Spa claims to be the best spa in the world. It happened to be on the metro line back to my hostel so I stopped by for a long hot soak. Unfortunately I didn’t take any photos here.
I finished the day with dinner with an old Uni friend from Wellington days, who also showed me around the campus where he lectures.

- How to escape from Hirshimchung spa in the event of a fire. Sorry the bottom pic isn’t too clear … she’s grinning as she’s lowered out through the window.
