From our dorm at summer school, Jale beach is about 45 minutes away but we didn’t go there. Supposedly it has restaurants and is quite well patronised. We’ve been told that if you walk right or left from Jale, you’ll get isolated spots to yourself.
Instead, our host Ben drove us (about 10 minutes by car) down to the beach near the Canyon at 11am. The journey included a long walk down a track which required a 4WD (which we didn’t have). This keeps most people away and we nearly had the place to ourselves.
The beach was pebbley (round, not sharp) which meant that the water was crystal clear … clearer than any swimming pool and one could see the bottom even when you go out far and deep. Truly, it was the clearest water I’ve ever experienced.
The water was also very calm which made it perfect for swimming. I swam out to a rocky outcrop where Ben and the Dutch boys did a bit of diving into the water.
After a walk in the Canyon, we had one last swim and walked back up to the carpark. It was a bit of a slog uphill but it was absolutely worthwhile. The day passed quickly and we were a bit surprised to find that it was 6pm when we got back.
