The pyramids at Teotihuacan are only an hour away from Mexico City. It comprises two big ones built in 100 and 300 AD, and several small ones. The Sun Pyramid at Teotihuacan is in fact the third largest in the world after Egypt’s Cheops pyramid and another one in Mexico.
We met a lovely bunch of other travellers on the bus and spent the day together at the pyramids. Our visit was accompanied by animal sound-effects (puma, panther or cougar, I think) from these wooden blow-toys which the vendors were selling.

We enjoyed each others’ company so much we had dinner together and finished the evening by going to a Mexican wrestling match.
While I have zero interest in wrestling, I enjoyed it tremendously. This isn’t anything like mainstream Olympic wrestling … it is more like a circus and combines elements of acrobatics, slapping, punching, bouncing and theatre.
There are six masked players involved and the circus isn’t confined in the ring. Quite often, a wrestler will be thrown out. His opponent will then bounce himself out to land on the already dazed player that’s by the feet of the front-row audience.
We managed to score front row seats half-way through. The atmosphere was amazing! Even better, we got to see the wrestlers kiss each other on the cheek at the end of the evening … it would never happen in an English-speaking culture.
