Today’s the hardest day in our Mexican adventure, in terms of road travel anyway. It was a 13h scheduled ride from Oaxaca at 0900 to Villhermosa, arriving at 2200. Fortunately it was a very comfortable bus, again with Grupo ADO. The alternative was a 6h journey bus-ride (or short flight) to Mexico City to connect to another flight to Merida.
The intercity buses in Mexico are very good but not cheap. Various classes are available and we’ve been very comfortable in the medium and better classes of travel. But we didn’t try the super high-end Platino class!
On some journeys, security is tight. On some journeys, one gets, frisked, seemingly always by a female security person and she walks around the bus to video everyone before departure as an additional security measure.
The wheel of our bus struck the curb of a toll-booth and damaged something. It was leaning to one side. We coasted at low speed thereafter for an hour before hopping on to a replacement bus at the next station. Surprisingly, we were only an hour late when we arrived at Villahermosa at 2300, staying at the Howard Johnson Hotel.
