Above: With no underwater camera, all we can capture is a surface photo of the crystal-clear water.
Diving in Vava’u was a bit of an afterthought after such an awesome day yesterday’s whale-swim where we got really close-up to three humpback whales. We toyed with the idea of doing more whale-swims. But no one could take us; they’re all full. It’s probably better that way as our companions told us our experience yesterday was unbeatable compared to the other days they’ve had out.
So we did two dives instead with Dolphin Pacific (who took us out for the whale-swim yesterday), who were based in Neiafu along with a few other operators.
- First dive was at The Gap, which had a few interesting swim-throughs.
- Second was at North Shore, where the wall disappeared freakily into the abyss.
Both dives impressed us with crystal clear visibility of around 60m. But the marine life wasn’t there (compared to what I’m used to). I saw a white-tip reef shark, sea snake, some lionfish. The non-living underwater seascape did compensate considerably, and I still enjoyed both dives.
