Around Skye

5 September 2013

The weather cleared and we had blue sky for most of the day with patches of rain. The down side is that Scotland’s infamous midgies were out in full force first thing in the morning, giving us a taste of their power to annoy.

We drove Dunvegan Castle about an hour away. While the scenery along the way, and the castle’s setting was beautiful, I think I’ve seen too many castles in my time. It’s just full of furniture, portraits, porcelain and swords.

After lunch in Portree, we drove up to Kilt Rock, a sharp cliff on the north-eastern side of Skye. We noticed that the landscape changed considerably through the island.

It was about 1700 by the time we got back to Kyleakin with a feeling that we had seen enough of beautiful Skye. After a short rest, we dinner at a nearby Indian (or rather Bangaldeshi) restaurant.
The hostel seems to have cleared out. It appeared deserted. The bus load of youngies had left and the carpark was also empty. It probably would have been less of a shock to Kim if we had arrived here tonight instead.
