Above: My super-quiet Airbus A380.
My brother dropped me off at Kuching airport early at about 1600. I was booked on the 2000 flight to KL but there was one at 1745. I asked if I could “go-show” for the earlier one but nowadays, unless one is on a really expensive fare, there is a service charge to have it changed.
I did this at the ticketing counter which took about 15 minutes. The airline was obviously serious about collecting the additional revenue as it was a manual process once the flight had gone into departure control.
Going on the earlier flight meant that I had plenty of time to spend in the Business Class lounge in KL. Otherwise it would have been a comfortably tight connection with little room for delay.
I boarded the Airbus A380 into its upper deck Business Class (award ticket) and we pushed off in a timely fashion at 2340. Despite having about 8 hours of horizontal space between supper and breakfast, I had trouble sleeping. The time past quite quickly though, so I must have dozed a little though.
