Sveti Naum Monastery
I wanted to go to the old monastery Sveti Naum today. It was a 50 min bus ride but I opted for a more pleasant but costlier boat journey on the lake leaving at 1000. It was indeed pleasant in the shade of the top deck cruising past villages and hotels.
The number of hotels and banana loungers is a reminder that both Macedonia and Montenegro are highly touristed (perhaps even more so than Queenstown in New Zealand). It is rarely heard of in the West but it attracts plenty of people from the Balkan area.
After about 90 min we arrived at the monastery. We had 4 hours to kill here. As I didn’t want to swim, there was plenty of time at hand. So I did everything in slow motion with frequent moments in the shade to rest and admire the scenery.
I walked along the promenade, had lunch and visited the monastery located slightly up the hillside. At 1530, the boat departed back for Ohrid.
