It was a lazy morning with a late breakfast or brunch until our check-out at 1200. We shared transport with a fellow diver from China. The seat-in-coach arrangement was RM20pp and only a fraction of what the hotel charges!
We got to the airport about 2h before departure for Kota Kinabalu and killed some time with a tea and a bite. Due to clouds, we didn’t see Mt Kinabalu on the way into KK. We tried dropping our bags for our onward flight to Kuching (on a separate ticket) but it was far too early. So we paid for left luggage so that we didn’t risk leaving it in my friend David’s vehicle as we explore KK.
David picked us up and I suggested that we walk on the waterfront so Kim to experience the markets and fresh seafood eateries set up for the evening. He took me to the Filipino market, a part I hadn’t been to in my walk a few months ago.
There was lots of fresh produce even in the late afternoon, in addition to spice and non-perishables. There were also lots of eateries some with fresh seafood, in a more basic setting compared to the ones I had walked past a little more to the north-east. From there, we went to the more touristy parts that I had explored previously.

For dinner, we decided that it might be a bit too rip-off to eat on the waterfront. David took us into the suburbs for dinner. I finally got a chance to repay his kindness by buying dinner. He dropped us back to the airport about 2000. We retrieved and dropped our bag before heading airside to the lounge.
Our flight boarded about 25 minutes ahead of my expectation due to early aircraft arrival. But due to stragglers we departed only about 10 minutes early. We Uber’ed to our apartment for only RM14.22 which was ridiculous for the 19km journey.
