One of the benefits of taking the train to the airport was being able to bag-drop in the city (on selected airlines only). I was able to do that today flying Malaysia Airlines and dropped my bag around 0930 before the 1000 cut-off for my 1200 flight.
I got to the airport a little after 1000 and went straight airside for a light brunch before going to the gate. Unfortunately the plane was about 20 mins late.
I don’t fly the national airline much anymore, opting for cheaper budget airline options. On board, they had reduced their cabin crew complement to 2 in economy serving about 140 pax. That meant that with the hot meal service, passengers only get a pre-packaged water with their meal. A beverage service is only offered after the meal.
I was met at the airport by my brother and sister-in-law. As it was a public holiday, some shops were closed. We stopped by Lok Ann (a Kuching ais kacang institution) to find them closed but a mobile truck version of their business parked in front. It was a gaily decorated truck and the dessert was as refreshing as ever!
This stay in Kuching is for a very special purpose. My mother will turn 90 on 7 September and the family will be celebrating the event with a dinner with some friends and relatives.
