It felt like any ole day with gym and yoga before doing chores through the day. Kim drove me to the airport around 2100 for my 2355 flight to Singapore, the start of my journey to Iran and Galapagos, amongst other places. First up would be Singapore, connecting to Palembang. My winter escape for 2018 comes a little early and I will be back to endure part of winter in August.
With a detour resulting in bad traffic I got to the airport 2h15 prior to departure. On standby, I was surprised to have the kiosk spit me a boarding pass without manual intervention, even though there were only about 10 seats spare.
I was stuck between people, with a handful of over options all equally bad. Going airside, security took about 30 minutes with a long snake of people being handled by only two scanners.
There wasn’t plenty of time to kill before an ontime departure on the Air New Zealand Dreamliner, a type which was having engine problems.
I put on my eyeshades after dinner and took my usual once-in-a-while sleeping pill. But it didn’t seem to work and I ended up with six hours wearing my eyshades in total, not sleeping or even dozing. This was interspersed with a cuppa tea, some cookies and an episode of American Dad.
Trapped between people, I drank less than my normal and only had to go to the loo only once, before my attempted sleep. For the 10h50 flight, I only had a 750ml bottle of water, 2 teas, 1 small cup of water and 1 wine.
