I had spent yesterday in town with my cousin and her son. Strangely, I showed them two great places that I’m surprised they didn’t know.
Firstly, the Singapore superstore that is called Mustafa. It kinda has anything and everything ranging from nightmarket cheapies to Mont Blanc belts side-by-side! There’s electronics, clothing, luggage, pharmaceuticals … but for me the food section is always interesting.
Secondly, it was Decathlon, the French sports superstore. Bags for less than SGD4, shorts for SGD5 etc. And to think that they have one in Glasgow not far from them but they didn’t know. They wanted to buy a fair bit and planned to return with passports to get the GST back.
So, today I leave Singapore for Kuching to see Mum. She had a fall recently and isn’t her normal self. I ordered a ride on Grab, opting for the cheaper GrabHitch option at SGD11 not realising it was a shared service.
We had two other passengers join but I was the first to be let off. Grab promotes the social side of it, and yes, the driver and all passengers chatted a little.
The ride took about 35 mins rather than the usual 20 mins but it was nice to see some areas that were new to me. I had about 2h45 before 1145 departure and had some breakfast in the lounge before heading to the gate an hour before departure.
There, I met my step-sister Stephanie (and son) from the USA whom I hadn’t met in my adult life. I vaguely remember her when we were kids as our parents were good friends. My step-father’s sister Julia was tagging along as a surprise.
Our AirAsia flight to Kuching left about 10 minutes early. On arrival, I continued to my apartment myself as they had other plans. I will have plenty of time to spend with them in the next week and a bit.
