Family time again

29 August 2018

I didn’t get any sleep on the flight to Singapore. I had started to take pride in how well I’ve slept on flights recently but this time the sleeping pill didn’t quite work. Perhaps my single economy class seat wasn’t reclined enough and had the feel of sliding down a little. It’s fortunate though that I can function with very little sleep.

We landed in Singapore’s Changi Airport about 15 mins earlier than the scheduled arrival time of 0640. It was a cloudier day compared to my previous trip as I recall seeing clearly engineers sticking the nose-cone of the Boeing 787 with speed tape upon arrival.

Changi was its usual efficient self with my bag on the carousel as soon as I got there after one train ride. I exited T3 and found that the way to T4 involved a walk to T2 underneath the motorway (using the MRT station tunnel). It was actually a much shorter route landside than the airside route I took last time.

At T4, I shifted a few pieces of clothing from my cabin bag to my checked-in bag. The latter now came to 24.7kg, having paid for 25kg with AirAsia this time. I was able to bagdrop with AirAsia more than 4h prior to departure rather than the usual limit of 3h at some of their ports.

This time I was also able to use the automated gates to go airside. With no one waiting for security, I was airside one hour after walking off the Air New Zealand flight! Not bad at all.

With a total of 5h between flights, I went to the Blossom Lounge. I wasn’t hungry so I started with some cold soft drinks (sugar-free of course) then put my name down for the shower. I did eat a little later before boarding my 1145 AirAsia flight to Kuching where I have about two weeks with family.
