My flight from Singapore to Bangkok Don Mueang departs at 1500. My aunt needed to go to the hospital for an appointment leaving the apartment at 0930. It was easy for me to leave the house with them. I pretended that my flight was 1300 and it was perfect for me.
Getting a taxi from her place is normally a piece of cake. But it was just after the peak-hour rush and after about 20 minutes trying, I gave up and ordered a Grab car. At the airport, I explored landside and airside to kill time before heading to the lounge. Technically I was only allowed a 3h lounge stay but I don’t think anyone cares … but since I had so much time, why not wander around this great airport!
After a shower, I fed and watered myself and did lots of admin on my computer until boarding time.
Thai AirAsia got us to Bangkok or officially Krungthep (the City of Angels) on time. Immigration queues weren’t long but there weren’t enough counters. It took about 30 minutes to clear. Once outside, the taxi queue was a shocker. Fortunately, I was able to take the Limobus from the domestic Terminal 2 to my hotel Lucky House near Khao San Road. I had stayed here before in April.
I wanted a light dinner. I found a hole-in-the-wall places near Khao San where I settled for a larb chicken. It didn’t have enough flavour in terms of chilli, fish sauce and herbs. A touristy place would have done a better version!
As I have to meet up with a friend on my last day, I needed to be contactable after check-out. I needed a SIM for that purpose (and as it turns out, the hotel WiFi was no good this time around). The cheapest one around was THB300 for a week’s unlimited internet. I would have been better off buying at the airport when there was a cheaper version for THB200 for fewer days.
