Having slept around 2200 last night, I woke before 0400. That’s way before my alarm set for 0545. I killed some time before summoning a Grab car. The price started at SGD15 but with no takers around, it went up up up and up to SGD28! Ouch! But a taxi would have cost similar anyway.
The Grab vehicle that arrived turned out to be a taxi anyway, driven by a nice Pakistani giant. I told him about my Pakistani adventures and he recommended going to Zierat next time (not sure of spelling).
I got to the airport at 0600 for my 0850 flight to Auckland, home-sweet-home. I had a light snack a the Dnata lounge where the catering wasn’t as lavish as some of the others in Singapore, but I’ll have food onboard the flight anyway. More importantly, I had a shower as I didn’t want to make too much noise at my aunt’s while she was still asleep.
While waiting at the gate, my paid upgrade came through for Premium Economy but not Business Class. I was going to be stuck between two people. I’d be better off in Economy where there were plenty of spare seats but I didn’t want to seem ungrateful and it wasn’t very much money.
Fortunately, the gate staff were able to change it to a window seat. Then on board, there had been a problem with a faulty Business Class seat, meaning a passenger from there had to be returned to Premium Economy. I was back to piggy-in-the-middle with all the musical chairs. But just before the doors closed, the lady beside me was shifted to Business Class meaning I had an aisle seat with a spare next to me in Premium Economy. Happy now!
All I want on a flight is just some space. In don’t care so much about the food, drinks etc. Anyway, the food was good catered from Singapore. I had a Russian flight attendant in my order and we interacted a little in Russian just for fun.
Kim had left the car at the airport this morning before his flight to Blenheim for the Easter Airshow. I drove myself home. It was nice to be home after a great adventure in Kinmen and Kalimantan.
