Leaving on a journey of more than two months doesn’t feel exciting when the first leg is domestic or shorthaul to a familiar destination. Today I fly to Sydney for an overnight to pick up my AirAsia X flight to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow. The weather forecast for Auckland isn’t good and it appears I’ve timed my departure perfectly.
I had originally booked from Auckland to KL on the same airline but they withdrew from the route. They offered me a full refund or a flight from Sydney instead, requiring me to make my own way to Sydney. But it was about $20 cheaper for me to opt for the refund and buy a new ticket from Sydney to KL.
I’m flying Air New Zealand to Sydney today on my frequent flyer points. I had booked the cheapest flight in the late afternoon but with a very minor reschedule, they allowed me to rebook on the 1250 flight which gave me more time in Sydney.
I got to the airport 2h prior and fed myself at the lounge as I didn’t have meals included on my flight. It was chocka on board but time went quickly with six episodes of comedy.
