On and around Lake Benmore

6 January 2020

Despite the windy conditions, I slept quite well through the night.  I did wake a few times wondering if the tent would blow over or if branches from the tree above would fall on us.

Kim and I knocked on Brent’s caravan around 0815 for breakfast and a cuppa.  It was around 1000 when Brent took us for another outing on Lake Benmore.  This time, we headed south towards Benmore dam.

He let us off at the jetty and tied up somewhere else.  We were able to take a walk to the dam, on top of which was a road.  From there, we could look down towards Lake Aviemore downstream.

After a simple lunch in the caravan, Brent drove us to Ken’s homestead.  Ken is the majority owner of the farm on which we’re camping in.  It was a lovely place with water supply, electricity and internet.  I believe the electricity comes from a DIY mini-hydro and I’m guessing the water is sourced via a private pump.

Apart from Kim and Brent, the remaining adults (including me) went for an hour’s walk up the nearby hills.  The higher spot offered a different view of the campsite and the lake.

The wind had picked up considerably and it was getting uncomfortable.  We all ate a late dinner inside the container-kitchen tonight.
