Landing at Sydney around 0740, it was fairly painless going through security to the departure area. I grabbed a meal with my Priority Pass card. A bacon and egg roll, coffee, pastry and a fruit salad took up most of my AUD36 allowance. I kept the fruit salad for onboard consumption, which was just as well because my meal choice didn’t quite work for me. It was a rice salad topped with chicken tandoori. Rice salad is often too under-cooked for me.
Coming into land in Auckland, I couldn’t help notice how brown it was. I later found out that the summer has been great this year for all except that water supply is now in ration. This makes up for some wet and windy ones we’ve had in previous years.
Disembarking, I didn’t notice any body temperature scanners to help detect people with fever (a symptom of the coronavirus). However, people were asked to show their boarding passes. Those coming from Australia were free to pass whereas others weren’t. I guess Australia already restricts people coming from China whereas other countries may not.
My 10kg bag of edible goodies from Carrefour in Bali made it through the agricultural inspection, partly because I took clearly laid out photos of everything that I had brought.
It was nice to be back in Home Sweet Home for the Kiwi summer. I had missed a great summer to be with family in Borneo for Chinese New Year.
