I fly at 1145 today from Nelson airport back to Auckland. The drive and the rental car return process off-airport meant that I had to leave after 0800. My drive was uneventful. As I passed Richmond on the outside of Nelson, I topped up the car and then continued to return it to Omega Car Rentals.
I didn’t want to rush my packing-up and checking of the car at return and decided to wait for the next shuttle. I got to the airport less than an hour before departure. There was plenty of time as there was really no “airside” apart from the plane parked on the apron. I wandered around, bought a sandwich and boarded my flight back to Auckland.
Soon after takeoff, I could see Farewell Spit in the distance. However, it wasn’t close enough for me to take a decent photo.
Crossing across to the North Island, Mt Taranaki / Egmont proved to be an easier photo subject. As we approached Auckland, I was reminded of the drought by the brown pastures.
I wasn’t so lucky with the carpark shuttle today. I had just missed one and had to wait 20 mins. It had to continue to the international terminal amidst traffic and construction, meaning that it took a further 15 mins to get to the carpark. I can’t be lucky all the time!
I’m home only for two nights before a new adventure on the high seas.
