Food in quarantine was variable. Sometimes it was tasty. Often the fish or chicken is too boney for someone who has lived in the west too long. And there’s lots of carbo and not enough meat or vege compared to what I’m used too. I’ve seen better fare on Facebook from people put up at other hotels, but on the other hand I’ve seen worse.
I came prepared with a stock of canned food and snacks from New Zealand. And my brother delivered everything I had asked for in a list, yesterday. He left it at security downstairs and it was brought up to me in the evening.
This hotel doesn’t allow cooked food to be brought up, eg. GrabFood (UberEats) or meals from home. The only food delivery allowed are McDelivery, KFC Delivery and PHD (Pizza Hut Delivery). The hotel has a decent room service menu but I’m trying to eat less. Having room service in addition to their included meals would be too much.
This morning, my food prayers were answered. Breakfast consisted of Nasi Lemak (coconut rice) with chicken curry. It’s the national dish, I guess. It was delicious and I finished every last bit of it. It was the first meal I had finished in entirety in quarantine.
- Day 1. I arrived after their standard dinner but they whipped up dinner for us late-comers.
- Day 2. Chicken for lunch and dinner.
- Fortunately I came with canned food and snacks.
- Tuna, diced canned tomatoes and chickpeas make a nice “salad”. Dessert or breakfast of muesli, milk, canned peaches and almond.
- Day 3. Fish for lunch and chicken for dinner.
- Day 4. A western breakfast makes a change. Fish for lunch and chicken for dinner.
- My brother brought in some fresh fruit, milk and canned food. Canned sweet corn and curried canned tuna makes another good “salad”.
- Day 5. My food prayers were answered with Nasi Lemak with chicken curry for breakfast. More chicken for lunch but boneless fish for dinner. Hurray!
