Satow Waterfall

10 September 2020

Above:  Ice cream sandwich Malaysian style; not quite … traditionally it’s ice cream rather than soft serve, and in a soft roll rather than a slice of bread.

I had a meet-up with some friends from school this morning, for breakfast.  After breakfast, despite being a rainy day, a few of us decided to continue with our plan to go to Satow Waterfall near Kampung Bobak in the Bau area.

Laura was kind enough to drive us there.  Her son David navigated while I sat at the back with Celine and Nee.  We parked up and paid a RM3 fee to the locals running the place.

It was a short fully paved walk from the car to the falls.  It was drizzly but the shade of the trees sheltered us adequately.  Once we got to the falls, we realised that it was dry.  The only water we could see was the pool at the base.

Despite that, it was a pretty spot.  We weren’t disappointed at all.  We sat and chatted for a while David took a cool dip.

We grabbed lunch together on the way back to Kuching.  We stopped for ice cream at Sunny Hill, an iconic ice cream parlour run by the Seventh Day Adventist school.  It brought back memories of a time when that was the only place we could buy ice cream in Kuching!  While the others had cones, I opted for the ice cream sandwich.  Normally it’s ice cream in a soft bun but here, it was soft serve in a wholemeal slice.

It was a lovely day spent with friends.  After our respective Covid-19 lockdowns, I think we were all glad to have a catch-up.
