We were meant to fly to Christchurch today as part of a roadtrip to Blenheim for the Omaka airshow. But the airshow got cancelled, not so much due to Covid-19 but the uncertainty and possibility of having a lockdown. And that’s despite New Zealand having hardly any community transmission for many months.
Despite the airshow cancellation, we decided not to change our flights (even though it was permitted for free) and fly down to Christchurch. We would do a mini roadtrip, to do things we’ve never done before and also repeat some things. And while doing that, we’d catch up with friends and family too.
We drove towards Auckland airport after the rush hour, leaving the car at Yes Rentals. We had booked a car with them in Christchurch and their deal allows us free parking in Auckland, which saves us about NZD30. Their rental price was amongst the cheapest as well.
They ran us to the airport over an hour before our 1130 departure. Kim had booked a commercial revenue ticket and got his boarding pass straight away. I, on the other hand, was on standby and got my boarding pass when boarding was nearly completed.
