Breakfast in Melaka

I didn’t need breakfast after last night’s filling dinner.  But I went along for a coffee then got seduced by the pork congee.

Eating in Seremban

We set off around 1000 from Melaka headed for Seremban.  Thomas had arranged to meet up with Janet, an ex-colleague for lunch at the market.  We go there about 1130 and started off with one of Seremban’s more famous dishes, being Beef Noodle.

The local version comes with a thick gravy rather than soup.  For me, the highlight was the tender beef slices, garnish of peanuts and salted vegetables.

Thomas had allowed 45 mins for lunch so that we could get back to Kuala Lumpur without any traffic hassles.  There had been road closures yesterday due to the foul weather conditions.

We ended up chatting at the market’s upstairs food hall for about 2h talking about all sorts.  Janet was good conversation with a wide range of topics ranging from work, politics to travel.  She now works in digital marketing and buys data from Facebook and Google to target their specific markets.  She also builds pricing models for property databases.

We moved on from the market around 1400 to the Siew Pau shop.  These pastries are another of Seremban’s specialties.  I bought a small selection while Thomas and Janet bought larger quantities to take away.  We enjoyed some of our purchases at a coffee shop across the road.

Finally, Janet tempted us cendol at a Mamak shop a short drive away.  Their specialty was an unusual combination of the usual cendol and red beans, with the less common addition of sweet corn and glutinous rice. It’s topped off with fresh coconut milk and gula melaka.

We finally left Seremban for Kuala Lumpur around 1515.  Surprisingly there were no traffic jams and Thomas dropped me off at CITI Hotel near KL Sentral around 1615.

Christmas at Pavilion

I more or less dropped my luggage and turned around to head out to Pavilion mall at Bukit Bintang.  It’s one of the nicest malls in the city and I wanted to check out its Christmas decorations.  I wasn’t the only one with that idea as the place was pretty crowded.  The decorations certainly didn’t disappoint.

From here, I found my way to Jalan Alor.  This is one of KL’s famous eating spots.  Despite numerous visits to the capital city, I’ve never dined here.  I wasn’t hungry and came more for a look-see but the I was very tempted by the green mango salad.  I gave in to the temptation and took dinner, washed down by a delicious lime juice blended with skin-on plus a dried sour plum in the mix.

I received a few message on the way back to the hotel but didn’t really pay any attention to them while on public transport.  It turned out to be some disturbing stuff on a personal front.  I stayed up till after midnight digesting the news.  Despite the troubling revelations, I fell asleep and slept pretty well.
