Above: Sign on the MRT suggest people not to talk to each other or on the phone to minimise the spread of Covid-19. Likewise, singing and wind musical instruments are not permitted indoors.
While in Korea I had been waking up early around 0530, being somewhat on New Zealand time. This should have continued here in Singapore as there is a further one hour time change but I woke up relatively late around 0700. Damn! I have an early bus ride coming up and I had hoped to continue my early wake-ups.
Wandering out to the Geylang area after 0800, I was surprised to see a few coffee shops open only for drinks but not food. The 24h Indian Muslim place nearest to me was open though. Not being hungry, I bought some fruit to eat in the room.
Actually, for a developed country, food is very cheap here and I bought three packs of cut fruit for SGD5. This country is blessed with poorer neighbours that provide them with cheap produce and cheap labour.
I went to see my 93(?) year old aunt late in the morning and stayed for lunch. I was surprised by how well she was keeping compared to my previous visit. Apart from moments of making up random stuff, she had good long and short term memory. Most importantly she looked well-fed and was happy as evidenced by her great sense of humour. My cousin, visiting from Scotland explained that good pain management has turned her around.
Late in the afternoon, I took the MRT to a friend’s place to see her two gorgeous cats. While they are local breeds which are normally small, they are as big as cats in western countries because of good nutrition.
We shared ride to a friend’s home in Bukit Timah for an awesome dinner with several other friends. It was a great catch up with friends (and earlier with my aunt) after more than two years due to the pandemic. It turned out to be another late night returning to the hotel around 2300.
