With 2h time difference from Bogota, I woke around 0530 but stayed in bed till about 0600. I had plenty of my mind with my upcoming flight on standby, looking up the passenger loads over the next few days. I made up my mind to fly tomorrow night instead of 2 days later on 15 August.
Around 0900 we left in search for breakfast and settled on a shop selling bagels filled bagels. It was an awful choice with one of them being a slobbery gooey mess with too much light cream cheese. We couldn’t even eat it properly as the cream cheese was so slippery it ejected the omelette that was in between the bagel.
I had had trouble for the last couple of hours trying to bring forward my flight online myself. I braced myself for the long wait with the Air New Zealand call centre, making them a call at 0930 while at breakfast. This continued through Kim’s shopping at Ross Dress for Less and after 2h, I finally got answered.
Bad luck meant that I was served by an inexperienced staff who didn’t know how to change a staff ticket when it probably has less complications. The call took about 30 mins and I was hugely relieved when my flight was successfully changed for tomorrow night. The 2h30 on the phone was well invested!
In the afternoon, we collected the rental car from Enterprise a short walk away. The service was five-star with Kim being intercepted at the queue, quick counter service and then met at the parking area for the car collection.
We visited a crew friend Dan for a light bite at Hawthorne before going to Costco. We couldn’t eat too much as we had a dinner date with my nephew and his wife in a couple of hours.
Our dinner at Cinco de Mayo was delicious, having ordered a prawn salad and some tacos. Our visit was two years late due to the pandemic and it was good to have a long-overdue catch-up.
