Above: Bathing boxes at Mount Martha.
Yesterday
My short stay in Melbourne was to catch up with my old aunt and cousins. I managed to do that yesterday, having a Vietnamese lunch with aunt after a morning hike up Lyrebird track. I even had time for a Nasi Padang dinner with a friend from Yemeni days, Natalia.
There was also a little bit of excitement on the road when heavy hailed came down on us while I was driving back from lunch. It was white-out scary and the noise was deafening.
Exploring on wheels
Today I was completely free, so Julia suggested that I take the car out again, this time going further afield.
Mornington peninsular seemed like a nice place. It was less than an hour to Mount Martha where there were some colourful bathing boxes, like the ones at Brighton Beach closer to the city which I haven’t been to.
It was a short drive to Arthur’s Seat lookout where I hoped to see the expanse of Port Philip Bay. I found a clearing slightly downhill and realised that the bay was so large that the other side was beyond the horizon.
I returned to Julia’s via their local Aldi to get a few gifts for family in Kuching and also for them. Cousin David visited in the afternoon with his wife Sue and we had a great catch up.
My stay with them finished me buying them a takeaway sushi dinner and apple crumble from their local mall. The sushi platter was a work of art and enough for all of us.
