Onboard the flight
After take-off from Melbourne, turbulence delayed the snack/supper service which consisted of a chicken tandoori roti wrap or a vegetarian pie. I took half a sleeping pill and had trouble dozing even though the seat recline was excellent.
I must have fallen asleep though because I felt rudely awakened by the breakfast service some 4h later. On offer was Nasi Lemak catered from Melbourne. The steward said it wasn’t very good but the omelette with chicken sausage would have been a worse choice for me.
Most of the passengers were connecting on to Kathmandu or various points in India. One crew member was particularly kind, giving away prepackaged croissants and peanuts as giveaways after the meal service, so kids wouldn’t go hungry during their transit in Kuala Lumpur.
Connecting to hometown
We landed in Kuala Lumpur on time at 0600. With our longhaul aircraft parked at what are usually shorthaul or domestic gates at the Main Terminal Building, I got to my domestic gate about 10 mins after disembarkation. That’s including walking time, immigration and security.
My domestic connection to Kuching departed about 10 mins before the scheduled time of 0730. Friends had complained of luggage not making it to their final destination with short connections. But today, I was lucky and my bag turned up in Kuching just fine.
I took a Maxim rideshare to my apartment, getting there about 1000. It’s not normal for me to arrive in Kuching early in the day and I was motivated to get the place clean.
Despite an impromptu long lunch at the Sarawak Club by friend Alice for Godeng who was back from Michigan, I did more cleaning in one day than what was sometimes accomplished in a week!
