Taking on board the recommendation from yesterday’s walking tour that Tram 2 is one of the most beautiful tram lines in the world, I headed out around 0900 to enjoy the sights from it. I headed south first to the final station, where the city was quite modern and the roads wide and nearly like highways.
Turning round and heading to the north, the Danube was visible for most parts with various landmarks on the Buda bank like the Gellert Hotel, Gellert Baths, Rudas Baths, Buda Palace etc.
The line turned inland, went past Parliament house and terminated a little beyond, to the north. I hopped off without feeling guilty like I did in Porto, where joy-riders like me were taking up scarce transport seats that locals needed for their day-to-day.
Taking on board a dining recommendation from the walking tour, I ate at Frici Papa. This seems to be a working man’s diner now popular with some tourists from the walking tour. They serve traditional dishes so it had to be goulash for me.
On the way back to the accommodation, I found a lovely arcade called Gozsdu Courtyard filled with market stalls and restaurants.
I had a chilled day but had planned to go for a discounted EUR9 river cruise at 1900. But unfortunately, the tickets sold out before I could book.
