Disappointing outing to Sremski Karlovci
The bus to Sremski Karlovci, a 20-min ride away, leaves right outside my hostel. But when I got to the street, I realised the road was closed for resurfacing for about 2 weeks. I decided to go explore the old town instead but during the walk, changed my mind to continue to the main bus station to catch the bus where it starts. In retrospect, I could probably have intercepted it somewhere en route, either before or after the road closure area.
Being technically an intercity bus, it left from the intercity part of the station where tickets were purchased at the station, with a platform surcharge. This was despite the bus being a normal suburban bus; just a very dirty one! No wonder, it left with only me on board and all the clever locals boarded at the first stop outside of the station!
What was meant to be an easy excursion took me nearly 2h to get going, in earnest, with the bus departing at 1010. With detours and congestion, I got to Sremski Karlovci a little before 1100.
The town turned out to be a little more than one street of attractive buildings, comprising of an Orthodox church, a Catholic church, a school and a few other buildings. I wandered for about an hour to make sure that I hadn’t missed something significant and was back on the bus within an hour.

It was a disappointing excursion, which probably wouldn’t have been so bad if the journey here had been normal without the road works.
Old Novi Sad
I explored Old Novi Sad again, this time in glorious sunshine. When I had my first walk last night, it was nearly dark.
I ate again at Green and Sweet, this time opting for a healthier choice without a creamy dressing and bacon bits. I spent the rest of the afternoon in my room before having dinner in the old town again.
