I woke at 0130 after 7h of sleep and continued to doze and sleep till 0600. That’s nearly 12h in bed. I must have needed it after the stress of the last few days.
The included hotel breakfast at 0730 was awesome. I chose the Vietnamese style kwayteow with pork steak. I went for a walk around the neighbourhood in the cool morning air a couple of times, buying some fruit to bring to my aunt with the chocolate I had brought from New Zealand.
I took a bus to my aunt’s place. She’s 94 this year I think and has deteriorated mentally along with being immobile and Parkinson’s. She has moments where she thinks she’s still a kindergarten teacher and gets everyone to do sums and then colouring. This is a lighter side to her condition but other aspects are actually rather depressing.
My cousin Janet was on her last day of her long stay from Scotland, flying off in a few hours. It was fortunate to have caught her briefly.
Her helper, Pat, now has her sister Sheena helping as well. They look similar and I mistook Sheena for Pat at first. Sheena was a teacher in the Philippines before taking this first overseas job as a domestic helper which pays a lot more than a teacher’s salary back home.
After that, I bussed to Orchard Road, after not having been there for about 8 years. There, I met a friend Charles for ais kacang before heading back to Lavender for dinner and to finish my day.
