At the gate at Changi airport, I was a little apprehensive about having done a gate-to-gate self-connect, only possible because I didn’t have checked-in luggage.
Information on Scoot’s website suggested that I should have cleared immigration, meaning that I would re-enter the airside. I was afraid the re-entry into airside might have been captured from passenger reconciliation purposes. And not having done that, I would be a prime candidate for offload, as I knew the flight was full.
The scanner beeped red as I scanned my boarding pass, with a message “Not Verified”. That was easily fixed by the gate staff checking my passport for my name match and expiry and all sweet afterwards.
I had been reassured by a former airport manager that the technology wasn’t that far advanced but you just never know with Singapore as they’re often at the forefront.
We closed up a little earlier than the 2015 departure. It was a 15 min taxi to the far end of the airport’s new runway for the short flight to Kuching.
Before take-off and landing, the cabin lights were dimmed rather than turned off completely. I’m used to the latter and I wonder if different regulators impose slightly different requirements.
Just before landing, there was an announcement that Singaporeans and Singapore residents may be prosecuted for consuming illegal drugs while overseas!
We landed on time and without bags, I was out quickly to catch a ride to my apartment.
After a month away, it didn’t seem too dusty but I was in a good-enough state to give the bedroom a mop before retiring around 2200. That’s 23 hours after I had woken up in Auckland.
